Rosas of Southend-on-Sea, England, would like to make their contribution to Couch by Couch West: a free EP of material embodying the anti-SXSW vibe of CXCW. Rosas’ mastermind Damon Goodridge, featured on the EP’s cover, has sung about going on holiday in at least half a dozen of the band’s songs, yet he seems to spend an disproportionate amount of his time on the couch. We told him to film a video for CXCW, but he sent us this picture instead insisting that he was about to go out to a pub, but we know he really just wanted to get back to watching “Match of the Day.” Since he didn’t want to just make one of those videos where a studio track plays while a pic sat unchanged on the screen, he assembled an EP of songs that had never been released that could be streamed through a simple bandcamp plugin or downloaded for free. The first song of the CXCW EP is about going through a quarterlife crisis, which SXSW seems to be going through this year (really, Puddle of Mudd, Filter and members of GN’R playing the conference this year?). The last song is a remix of the early Rosas’ song “One Way to Mexico,” which is a trip we think would have been a better use of money for the hipsters in Austin this week. The EP’s second song? It is just a nice little song that he forgot to properly release. The EP can be downloaded from this location for free, but only for a limited time: http://music.cityofrosas.co.uk/album/cxcw-ep
